On October 30-31, 2024, the conference "Young Leaders of the EU and Central Asia: Changing the Paradigm of Sustainable Water Use" took place in Tashkent. The event brought together around 100 young participants from the region, representing civil initiatives, the scientific community, media, political circles, and government structures. The SAMR Alatoo Foundation was represented by young specialists from the "Water Resource Management" program.
The conference aimed to strengthen the role of youth in the joint EU-Central Asia agenda for sustainable water management, improve regional dialogue and partnerships, and raise awareness about EU initiatives regarding climate resilience.
During the high-level panel, young leaders were welcomed by the heads of the ministries of water management, energy, and education from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. Representatives from the diplomatic corps of EU countries in Central Asia, the UN, and the OSCE also participated in the conference.
The thematic sessions, workshops, and interactive events discussed effective water use, water diplomacy, and the impacts of climate change. These topics helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the key aspects of cooperation in water resource management and engaged them in dialogue that is essential for the sustainable development of the region.
