Residents of rural areas in the Chui region will now have the opportunity to implement energy-efficient solutions in their homes. Local architects, supported by the CAMP Alatoo PF, have developed standard housing designs. These projects enable the construction of homes using technologies that ensure comfort while reducing energy costs and harmful emissions.
As part of the project "Green Housing Initiative in CA: Building Healthy and Climate-Resilient Homes," detailed architectural blueprints were developed for houses of various sizes: 75, 76, 86, 114, and 137 square meters. The core feature of these designs is the LECH (Low Energy Consumption Houses) approach. These low-energy homes maintain warmth and comfort with minimal coal and electricity consumption. Detailed information on this approach and the thermal insulation process is provided in brochures printed for distribution among the local population.
Sets of these blueprints will be provided free of charge to the administrations of six rural municipalities (aiyl aimaks) in the Chui region (Kun-Tuu, Tash-Moynok, Zhayylma, Uzun-Kyr, Manas, and Baytik), as well as the villages of Kok-Zhar and Dzhal (suburbs of Bishkek). Local residents can use them for new "ground-up" construction, as well as for the reconstruction and insulation of existing homes.
"Our goal is to make healthy, affordable, and climate-resilient housing accessible to the rural population. Using ready-made blueprints not only saves money on architectural services but also guarantees that the house is built according to modern energy-saving standards," project specialists stated.
The "Green Housing Initiative in CA" was implemented from late last year through March of this year. A key achievement of the project was the insulation of nine houses using thermal insulation technologies funded by the initiative. Participants included vulnerable groups, such as large and single-parent families, families with members with disabilities, and young families.
The Green Homes of Central Asia project is supported by the Small Grants and Climate Innovation Fund (SGCIF), funded by the UK Government. The Fund is part of the GIZ regional program “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia.”
