Insulating Homes in Issyk-Kul Region Villages

The insulation of homes in the villages of Issyk-Kul region is a key focus of the project "Providing Rural Residents of Kyrgyzstan with Access to Energy-Efficient Technologies." The "СAMР Alatoo" Public Foundation is implementing this initiative with the support of the French company PVSYST Foundation. French specialists, together with the СAMР Alatoo team, selected homes whose owners will receive assistance in carrying out insulation work.

In the first phase, 12 homes were reviewed. The residential properties meet specific criteria related to construction type, area size, and the presence of heating systems.

For comprehensive monitoring, experts chose three homes in the villages of Barskoon, Kurb, and Chong-Jargylchak, located in the eastern and southern parts of Issyk-Kul. These homes have been equipped with data loggers to measure humidity and temperature in different rooms, both indoors and outdoors. This will allow for the comparison of internal and external temperatures and help calculate energy consumption. The homeowners will track their daily use of fuel—coal, firewood, dung—as well as electricity and record financial expenses in a logbook. Specialists from PVSYST Foundation and "СAMР Alatoo" PF trained the homeowners in how to calculate and complete the logbook. The data collection will continue throughout the 2024-2025 heating season, with СAMР Alatoo staff conducting monitoring and analyzing the logger data every 1.5 to 2 months.

This approach is essential for determining heat and energy consumption, identifying structures vulnerable to heat loss, selecting effective insulation materials, and calculating the budget. Insulation work will be carried out by local craftsmen, who will begin training in February next year. The insulation process will start in early summer.

During their visit to the Issyk-Kul region, representatives from PVSYST Foundation and "СAMР Alatoo" PF monitored insulated homes in the village of Kyzyl-Suu. The experts positively evaluated the work done but recommended strengthening the protection of insulation materials on the walls and windows of the homes.
