Under the GIZ project "Identifying Suitable Sites for Afforestation, Reforestation, and Natural Regeneration of Degraded Forests within the State Forest Fund (SFF) of the Kyrgyz Republic," supported by the Forestry Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, fieldwork has commenced to survey potential afforestation sites within the SFF of the Kyrgyz Republic.
A working group, including specialists from the P.A. Gan Scientific and Production Center of Forestry of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and project staff from “СAMР Alatoo Consulting” LLC, with the support of the Forestry Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, has started field studies and data collection. This work is being conducted in 15 pilot forestry enterprises selected across the country.
The purpose of these studies is to identify the most ecologically, socially, and economically suitable forest sites that ensure a high survival rate for forest plantations. This will help forestry enterprises effectively plan forest management and provide numerous benefits to local communities in the future.
The collected data will form the basis for developing a methodology for assessing potential forest sites for the silvicultural fund within the SFF of the Kyrgyz Republic.
