The experience of the CAMP Alatoo PF in sustainable natural resource management, local community awareness-raising, and environmental education has received international recognition.
Information on successful practices (referred to as "solutions") resulting from the Foundation's projects has been published on the prestigious global platform PANORAMA — Solutions for a Healthy Planet. This international online platform brings together proven solutions in nature conservation and sustainable development from around the world. The platform aims to scale up effective approaches, enabling experts from different countries to exchange experiences and adapt best practices to their local conditions.
CAMP Alatoo PF has uploaded the results of its long-term work on the platform, focusing on key areas such as biodiversity conservation, local community engagement in conservation efforts, and environmental education.
Within the framework of the project "Biodiversity Conservation and Poverty Reduction through Joint Management of Walnut Forests and Pastures" (2018–2023, supported by GIZ), solutions were presented to mitigate anthropogenic pressure on the unique walnut forests in southern Kyrgyzstan.
An information campaign covering forest management, eco-education, and value chains helped improve local residents' access to information and increased the engagement of authorities and the media in the environmental agenda. The project provided communities in the villages surrounding the Arstanbap walnut forest with the tools needed to transition from unsustainable to sustainable use of natural resources.
Another significant solution recognized internationally was the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) principles. To shift the teaching of biology and ecology in remote mountainous areas from dry theory to practice, experts from CAMP Alatoo PF, in collaboration with local teachers, developed a methodological manual — the only one of its kind in Kyrgyzstan. The guide, which features interactive teaching methods, practical exercises, and colorful visual aids (posters, maps, and cards), was approved by the Kyrgyz Academy of Education (KAE) and is actively used in secondary and higher education institutions to raise environmental awareness among the younger generation and youth.
The next successful practice of the Foundation was the establishment of the Baiboosun community-managed nature zone in the Ton district of the Issyk-Kul region. Founded seven years ago as a voluntary community initiative in response to declining wildlife populations, Baiboosun became one of the first community micro-reserves to receive official status as a Local Protected Area (LPA) in 2025. This LPA covers more than 20,000 hectares of high-altitude ecosystems. Such community-created and community-managed LPAs can make a significant contribution to fulfilling Kyrgyzstan's international commitments to protect 30% of its territory by 2030.
The publication of CAMP Alatoo PF's case studies on the PANORAMA platform confirms that the organization's approaches align with international standards and can serve as an effective model for similar mountainous regions worldwide.
