The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan officially inaugurated the new IUCN Central Asia Office in Tashkent. The opening ceremony was a significant milestone in advancing regional cooperation in nature conservation.
The high-level event brought together representatives of Central Asian governments, international organizations, the scientific community, and non-governmental organizations.
The new office, based at the Central Asian University for Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University), will serve as a coordination hub for conservation activities across the five countries of the region: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The office will promote knowledge exchange, the expansion of partnerships, and the implementation of initiatives aimed at biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and climate resilience.
In the region, the CAMP Alatoo PF is implementing the IUCN project “One Health in Nature Conservation – Enhancing Landscape Resilience to Zoonotic Disease Emergence through Integrated Conservation Systems,” which focuses on integrating human, animal, and ecosystem health into sustainable natural resource management.
With the opening of this office, IUCN strengthens its presence in the region as a long-term partner in nature conservation and sustainable development.
