The САМР Alatoo РF took part in the Third Meeting of Range States under the Central Asian Mammals Initiative (CAMI), which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The event was organized within the framework of the project “Enhancing the Conservation of Flagship Migratory Mammal Species of Central Asia through Climate Change-Informed Management and Decision” (CAMCA).
Since 2022, the САМР Alatoo РF has been implementing the CAMCA project in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on the conservation of the snow leopard, argali, red deer, ibex, and their habitats under the conditions of climate change. During the meeting, representatives of the organization presented the results of their work and shared practical experiences in species conservation.
The CAMI initiative was established under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) to strengthen international cooperation across the region. The CAMI list includes 15 key mammal species, including the argali, saiga antelope, goitered gazelle, Asiatic wild ass, Bukhara deer, Mongolian gazelle, snow leopard, wild yak, and others. The meeting also considered the potential inclusion of the Pallas’s cat and lynx in this list.
According to official information, the Tashkent meeting served as an important preparatory step toward the 15th Conference of the Parties to CMS (COP15). Key topics of discussion included the exchange of experiences, the update of the CAMI Programme of Work for 2020–2026, and the development of sustainable financing and coordination mechanisms for the initiative.
САМР Alatoo’s PF participation in such international events contributes to strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation efforts in Kyrgyzstan.
