Moderation Skills and Knowledge Transfer: “CAMP Alatoo” Experts Participate in a Training of Trainers

Specialists from the "CAMP Alatoo" PF are enhancing their qualifications and strengthening their skills in conducting workshops for local communities. From September 28 to October 1, 2026, current and future trainers are undergoing training on sustainable pasture management, taking into account ecological corridors.

Training activities are an essential component of the Found’s project work. In practice, almost every team member serves as a moderator or co-moderator when engaging with rural communities.

The current Training of Trainers (ToT) serves as a platform for knowledge transfer: leading Foundation experts, who have conducted hundreds of events, are sharing their expertise with young specialists and working group members to prepare a new generation of professionals for field work.

Participants learned about the development history of the L4S (Learning for Suitability) methodology, originally developed by the University of Bern. "CAMP Alatoo" PF specialists adapted this system to the context of Kyrgyzstan. Today, the organization utilizes thematic L4S modules across four key areas: (1) pasture resource management; (2) water resource management; (3) climate change adaptation; (4) natural resource conflict management.

The ToT curriculum mirrors the classic format of workshops that "CAMP Alatoo" PF conducts locally. By tradition, participants began by establishing ground rules for interaction (punctuality, active participation, silent phone mode) and voicing their expectations. This time, requests covered both theoretical aspects (the structure of pasture management plans, the purpose of ecological corridors) and practical skills (audience engagement, conflict prevention, effective moderation techniques). Additionally, prior to the thematic sessions, participants took a pre-test to measure their knowledge gain against a post-test at the end of the training.

The first day of the intensive training was dedicated to core moderation tools: participants explored the trainer's role, mastered key audience engagement techniques, and learned program design algorithms. The following days cover specialized topics, including pasture management system reforms, pasture use planning, and ecological corridor establishment.

Theory will be reinforced through practice: participants and experienced mentors will play the "Pasture Management" simulation game. The ToT will culminate in practical group exercises, where each participant will step into the role of a moderator and conduct a trial session for their colleagues.

The training is being held as part of the project " Adaptation of Migratory Mammals to Climate Change in Central Asia” (САМСА), implemented by “CAMP Alatoo” PF with support from IKI and UNEP.
