A seminar was held in Bishkek to discuss the methodology for identifying potential sites for forest regeneration within the State Forest Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was organized as part of the task to determine suitable areas for afforestation and the restoration of degraded forests across the territory of the State Forest Fund of Kyrgyzstan. The project is implemented with the support of the GIZ regional program “Integrated Land Use Considering Climate Change in Central Asia.”
The seminar brought together representatives of the Forest Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Academy of Sciences, GIZ, UNEP, the САМР Alatoo PF and other relevant organizations.
During the meeting, four presentations were delivered, highlighting the methodological, legal, geoinformation, and soil-related components of the future tool. Participants emphasized the need to integrate soil map data and suggested making the final cartographic materials publicly accessible via online platforms.
Based on the discussion, additional analytical refinements will be incorporated into the methodology, and the resulting maps will become an important tool for local forest enterprises when planning forest restoration activities.
The next seminar is scheduled for February 2026, during which specialists will receive practical training on the spatial analysis method used to identify suitable sites for afforestation.
