Малые гранты, большое влияние: на Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 презентовали результаты проекта по «Зеленым домам»

Small Grants, Big Impact: Green Homes Central Asia Project Results Presented at Eco Expo Central Asia 2026

04 June 2026

Today, achievements from five regional projects supported by the Small Grants and Climate Innovation Facility (SGCIF) were presented as part of the Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 international exhibition. The Facility was launched in 2025 to increase the region's resilience to climate change.

As noted in the official press release, the meeting was opened by Timothy Smart, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Uzbekistan. He emphasized the vital importance of joint regional forward-looking efforts in the fight against climate change. Elena Zanardi, Component Leader of the GIZ regional programme “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia”, served as the session's moderator. Participants of the meeting highlighted the significance of financial support from donors in achieving ambitious climate goals and strengthening regional cooperation, presenting detailed results of the work on the ground.

Kyrgyzstan participated in four projects implemented jointly with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The Camp Alatoo PF, in partnership with the organization GERES, implemented the project "Green Homes Central Asia Initiative: Building Healthy, Climate-Resilient Homes in Central Asia". This initiative was aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing living conditions in rural and peri-urban areas of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan by promoting low-energy consumption (LEC) housing. To date, 1,040 individuals have already adopted energy-efficient construction and retrofitting methods. In Tajikistan, agreements have been signed for the construction of 144 energy-efficient houses, which are estimated to reduce emissions by approximately 308 t CO₂e annually. For its part, Camp Alatoo PF developed five standard energy-efficient house designs and digital tools, such as an energy-saving calculator. Additionally, staff at design institutes and financial organizations completed specialized training, establishing a solid foundation for the large-scale implementation of technologies that can reduce CO2 emissions by 30% while simultaneously improving indoor thermal comfort for residents.

According to the press release, during the international meeting in Samarkand, participants also familiarized themselves with the outcomes of the other four regional climate projects.

Project 1, "Improving the quality of life of rural communities in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan through the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices, followed by the development and issuance of carbon credits on voluntary carbon markets", implemented jointly by the ECOJER Association and the NGO Sharikon Baroi Rushd, introduced the international VM0042 methodology on an area of over 30,000 hectares and established a monitoring framework (MRV) to reduce emissions by 38,000 tCO₂e annually with entry into voluntary carbon markets.

Project 2, "Setting frame conditions for mass scaling of energy innovations in Tajikistan’s and Kyrgyzstan’s agricultural systems", is an initiative by Welthungerhilfe (WHH), Bargi Sabz, and CREEED to promote renewable energy (solar pumps, solar dryers, and electric fencing) in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan; it has reached more than 480,000 people and trained 350 specialists.

Project 3, "Ferghana Valley Irrigation Partnerships Project", is an initiative of a consortium of Helvetas and the Youth of Osh; thanks to the "Agro-Caravan 2026" trade fairs, it attracted over €145,000 of investment in water-saving equipment and launched an instalment-based financing mechanism for farmers.

Project 4, "Bridging the gaps of climate finance in Central Asia", is a project by GGGI implemented in partnership with the ministries of economy of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, under which mechanisms for issuing green and sustainable bonds were developed for Aiyl Bank (KR) and the Business Development Bank (UZ) with a combined potential to mobilize at least $100 million. The presentation of the facility's performance outcomes in Samarkand once again demonstrated that small grants are capable of delivering a long-term, large-scale impact on environmental security and climate resilience across the entire Central Asian region.
