Foresters from the Naryn region have mastered the methods of closed root system for growing trees

The PF "CAMP Alatoo" organized training for employees of the Naryn and At-Bashy forestry enterprises of the Naryn region. The seminars aimed to enhance the qualifications of over 30 workers with a focus on the conservation and restoration of forest cultures.

In the theoretical part, trainers - specialists from the PF "CAMP Alatoo" - informed participants about the closed root system method for growing coniferous species: seedlings are placed in containers or vessels with a specific mixture of soil, sand, and other components. This allows preserving the plant's root system in its original state during transportation and planting, minimizing stress for the plant and ensuring more successful survival. Plants with a closed root system require less watering and a smaller surface area for nutrient absorption.

The PF "CAMP Alatoo" provided the forestry enterprises with materials, tools, and containers for seedlings. Participants also used this equipment during practical sessions, which took place in new greenhouses. Together with the trainers, forestry workers prepared seeds and cuttings of coniferous trees, soil mixtures, practiced planting, watering, and disinfecting planting materials. During the sessions, discussions were held on creating and maintaining greenhouse conditions for the successful survival of seedlings. Participants planted seeds and cuttings of Tian Shan spruce, blue spruce, thuja, juniper, and Crimean pine.

The seminars were highly appreciated by the participants, who found them useful and informative. The events also served as a catalyst for further development of the closed root system method in forestry enterprises, contributing to the preparation of high-quality planting material in the harsh climate and mountainous terrain of the Naryn region.

The training was conducted as part of the project "Rangeland and Natural Resource Management in Kyrgyzstan," implemented by the PF "CAMP Alatoo" with the support of the U.S. Forest Service.
