In 2023–2024, the СAMР Alatoo РF actively participated in developing a unified methodology for pasture monitoring—a single tool to assess pasture conditions across the entire territory of Kyrgyzstan.
This work was carried out within an interagency working group established by the Department of Breeding Livestock, Pastures, and Fodder under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. The initiative for developing this methodology came directly from the Department. Financial support was provided by the regional program “Integrated Land Use Considering Climate Change in Central Asia” of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, while СAMР Alatoo РF ensured technical support throughout the process.
The main goal of the methodology is to provide pasture specialists—from municipal enterprise staff to scientific researchers—with a single, effective tool for assessing pasture conditions. The methodology integrates the best practices and approaches that were previously developed and applied separately, now unified into a consistent system.
Alongside the methodology, СAMР Alatoo РF created an electronic database for collecting and storing monitoring results. Based on this database, the “Pasture Monitoring” mobile application will be updated, allowing specialists to quickly record field data on pasture conditions.
Today, the methodology has already proven its practical value. Specialists from the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Pastures and Livestock (KRNIIL) under the Ministry of Agriculture used it to assess pastures in the Suusamyr Valley. Key indicators were monitored, including signs of degradation, the presence and spread of weeds and shrubs, soil stoniness, and the condition of the grass cover.
Currently, the unified methodology is undergoing approval at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. With effective and collaborative implementation, this approach could become an unprecedented tool for evidence-based decision-making and significantly strengthen the resilience of pasture management.
