The team of the project "Access to Energy-Efficient Technologies for Rural Residents in Kyrgyzstan" conducted a regular monitoring of households in several settlements of the Issyk-Kul region.
This summer, three typical houses were selected in the villages of Barskoon, Kurbu, and Kichi-Jargylchak to receive assistance with insulation next year. The selection process considered standard construction types, floor area, and the presence of heating systems. To analyze living conditions, specialists from the SAMR Alatoo Foundation installed dataloggers that record humidity and temperature. These devices collect data both inside and outside the homes, which is essential for calculating energy consumption. Monitoring is conducted quarterly.
During the recent monitoring, measurements were taken between 5:00 and 5:30 a.m., the coldest time of day. Weather conditions already signaled the onset of winter: Kurbu experienced its first snowfall, while nighttime temperatures in Barskoon and Kichi-Jargylchak dropped to -1°C. The inspection confirmed that all dataloggers were functioning properly.
In addition, homeowners maintain logs to record daily fuel and electricity consumption as well as financial expenses. However, the monitoring revealed that some residents were keeping incomplete or irregular records. To address this, the project team held informational sessions with the homeowners, emphasizing the importance of consistent record-keeping for accurate analysis and the future optimization of energy use.
This approach helps determine heat and energy losses, identify structural elements prone to heat leakage, select suitable insulation materials, and create a budget.
