Improving of community well-being

Energy efficiency

CAMP Alatoo is a pioneering force in the development and dissemination of innovative energy-efficient solutions. We also provide training for masters in home insulation and facilitate access to financing for home insulation in rural areas. The Foundation has established production of energy-efficient and clean stoves and low-pressure boilers, the "Zhalyn", on the basis of a workshop opened in Bishkek in 2020. Thanks to the mini-production concept, the cost of stoves has been reduced, which allows the population to benefit from affordable technologies. The Foundation also fulfils the objectives and functions of raising awareness among rural communities about sustainable energy use and generation.

Improvement of livelihoods of mountain communities is achieved by increasing availability, reliability and sustainability of energy resources and energy efficiency through various approaches and instruments.

Approaches:

  • Monitoring the energy consumption of buildings to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
  • Obtaining reliable information to identify potential for improvement via energy measurement, data collection and data analysis.Theoretical and practical training on the installation, maintenance and optimisation of appliances designed to reduce energy consumption and increase indoor comfort.
  • A comprehensive process aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving the environmental sustainability of buildings by designing energy-efficient buildings, introducing innovative building materials and modern heating/ventilation systems as well as renewable energy sources, and finally ensuring access to financing programmes.
  • Demonstrating the advantages and possibilities of energy-efficient houses, the project serving as a model for broad application and raises public and professional awareness about the importance of energy-efficient houses.
  • Fostering local economic development and sustainable growth by creating new jobs and business opportunities using energy-efficient technologies and financial instruments.
  • The introduction of energy efficient technologies in agro-ecological projects significantly increases the sustainability of agriculture, improves the quality of life of rural residents, and also reduces the negative impact on the environment.
  • Conducting socio-environmental assessments.

Tools:

  • Conducting of energy audits.
  • Providing guidelines to reduce energy consumption and costs.
  • Developing and implementing training programmes on the thermal insulation of households with organic and inorganic materials.
  • Developing and implementing training programmes for calculation, design and manufacture of energy efficient stoves and low-pressure boilers.
  • Organising and implementing experience and knowledge exchange with various international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on matters pertaining to woodworking and thermal insulation.
  • Conducting trainings for masters/mechanics on effective communication and client interaction.
  • Dissemination of energy-efficient outdoor cooking stoves.
  • Design of earthquake-resistant and energy-efficient typical rural house projects using CAD programmes (SolidWorks, AuroCAD, Shapr3D).
  • Developing a catalogue of thermal insulation solutions for energy-efficient homes in co-operation with state authorities.
  • Formation of public associations for the purpose of promoting/establishing energy-efficient construction practices.
  • Creation and development of a revolving fund, comprising interest-free loans for the purchase of materials alongside financial assistance, to improve energy efficiency by private households.
  • Conducting of research to identify key needs and issues in communities (taking into account both environmental and social aspects of energy efficiency projects).
  • Developing targeted programmes and policies based on the findings of local research, with the objective of enhancing energy efficiency, quality of life and strategies to minimise negative impacts on communities.

Digital tools developed:

  • An online calculator for thermal calculation and consumption of thermal insulation materials.
