Sustainable management of water resources

CAMP Alatoo promotes sustainable water management by developing approaches and tools for sustainable and efficient use of water in the face of climate change. Special attention is paid to development of local water management plans that help address water conflicts, improve crop yields and enhance livelihoods. All activities are based on the principles of partnership, trust and cooperation, involving local communities, authorities and relevant institutions.

Improvement of livelihoods of mountain communities focuses on a better quality of life for the communities through water management and awareness raising.

Approach:

  • Capacity building through awareness raising and training focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and awareness of local people and stakeholders for effective water management and improved livelihoods.

Tools:

  • Conducting educational programmes and raising awareness of local communities on water management and climate change issues.
  • Assess and analyse public perceptions of climate change risks: сonducting research using focus groups, surveys (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice) and discussions to analyse public perceptions and identify information gaps.
  • Adoption of soil and water conservation technologies: adopting technologies and practices that conserve and efficiently use soil and water to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability, as well as livelihoods of communities.
  • Rehabilitation of irrigation systems: improving access to water, reducing conflicts, using resources efficiently and reducing water losses.
