Mitigating conflicts over natural resources

Sustainable Land Management

The objective of CAMP Alatoo is to enhance the quality of life for rural communities through the implementation of sustainable land management practices. This encompasses the mitigation of climate change, the reduction of soil erosion and the restoration of degraded pastures and forest ecosystems. Over the past two decades, the organisation has been engaged in the development and adaptation of diverse approaches and tools to achieve these goals.

CAMP Alatoo builds capacity and strengthens local institutions to analyse, prevent and resolve local conflicts over natural resources, take adequate measures to reduce the risk of their occurrence and improve framework conditions.

      Approaches:

  • Establishment of District Pasture Commissions to coordinate and improve management of conflicts over pasture and forest resources.
  • Participation as co-chair of the Coordination Consultative Council Board to facilitate co-operation and knowledge sharing on sustainable pasture management.

Tools:

  • Awareness raising using the Training module Conflict Management over Natural Resources - L4S.
  • Production and distribution of videos on grazing rules and pasture management for local communities.
  • Conducting conflict analysis and comparison based on interviews with different stakeholder groups, review of literature, data and conflict typologies.
  • Introducing special measures to mitigate conflicts at the local level.
