Sustainable Land Management

The objective of CAMP Alatoo is to enhance the quality of life for rural communities through the implementation of sustainable land management practices. This encompasses the mitigation of climate change, the reduction of soil erosion and the restoration of degraded pastures and forest ecosystems. Over the past two decades, the organisation has been engaged in the development and adaptation of diverse approaches and tools to achieve these goals.

CAMP Alatoo helps local people improve their livelihood by promoting sustainable natural resource management.

Approaches:

  • Contribution to improved livelihoods through community capacity building.
  • Engagement of local participation in decision-making on natural resource management at the local level.
  • Regionalization: Pooling of expertise in the Central Asian region to advance the environmental agenda at the regional level.

Tools:

  •  Providing an assistance to local veterinarians to set up artificial insemination, thereby facilitating improvements in livestock breeding.
  • Supporting villagers to diversify their income sources, as honey and dried fruit, dairy products production, by supplying the necessary equipment such as dryers.
  • Establishing of micro-credit agencies to improve forage production.
  • Strengthening community-based seed funds at the local level.
  • Delivering training on climate change adaptation - using the Learning for Sustainable Development methodology and a simulation board game on pasture managemenеt
  •  Organizing experience exchange tours on pasture management for representatives of other countries.
  • Adapting training modules on L4S pasture management to other Central Asian countries.
