Project Background

The project aims to improve the understanding and management of climate change risks in Central Asian countries through modern approaches and methodologies. This initiative seeks to create a comprehensive system of assessment and planning to minimize the negative impacts of climate change and ensure the sustainable development of the region.

Main Objectives of the Project:

Improving Understanding of Climate Change Risks:

  • Applying modern approaches and methodologies for integrated climate risk assessment.
  • Conducting research to identify existing and future climate change risks and their impacts on the region.

Supporting Climate-Responsive Planning:

  • Conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing and future climate change risks at the national level in selected Central Asian countries.
  • Using assessment results to develop strategies and plans aimed at climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Promoting CDKN Partnership:

  • Establishing and strengthening partnerships between CDKN (Climate and Development Knowledge Network) and the governments of Central Asian countries.
  • Identifying opportunities for technical support in areas most affected by climate change.
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of measures aimed at reducing risks and enhancing resilience to climate change.

Project Objectives & Goals

The goal of the project was to develop and adapt a methodology for assessing the impact of climate change in the Central Asian region.

Project Result

Creating an Interdisciplinary Team of Experts:

  • Formed an interdisciplinary team of regional experts from two Central Asian countries and involved a foreign expert to enhance knowledge and expertise in climate risk assessment.

Adapting Existing Methodologies:

  • Conducted a thorough evaluation and review of existing methodologies to adapt them to Central Asian conditions.
  • Created a database that includes best practices and approaches for integrated climate risk assessment.

Workshops and Seminars with Stakeholders:

  • The expert group held a series of meetings and seminars with representatives of projects, governments, and non-governmental organizations in Central Asian countries. These events facilitated the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices, as well as strengthened cooperation among various stakeholders.

Developing Climate Risk Assessment Methodology:

  • Developed the first version of the climate risk assessment methodology, which considers the specific conditions and needs of Central Asian countries. This document is available on the CDKN website for open access and use by all interested parties.
